Why on earth would the Libertarians nominate Bob Barr as the their presidential candidate??!!??!! Barr voted
for the Patriot Act,
against Medical Marijuana, and
for authorization of Bush's unconstitutional Iraq War. He led the charge to impeach President Clinton. He drafted the Defense of Marriage Act. In Congress, Barr proposed that the Pentagon ban the practice of Wicca in the military. I can't think of anyone I'm less likely to vote for. I just don't understand. Can someone explain this to me?

Barr has regretted a lot of his votes in Congress, and now actively campaigns against them. He honestly believed that the Patriot Act would be the end of government intrusion, but now sees that it has become a starting point for even more power grabs. Same for the rest. He believes that the Defense of Marriage Act was created NOT to put the feds in a position to define marriage, but to insure it would be a states rights issue. I sure would prefer him to Bush, or McCain, or even Obama for that matter.
Thanks so much for the comment. It sounds like in your description Barr is the ultimate "flip-flopper," and a political opportunist. And, what about his role as four-star-general in the War on Drugs? While he may be better than the Bushes, Clintons, McCains, and Obamas; why shouldn't we all continue to support Dr. Paul, clearly the true libertarian with his hat in the ring?
