MINISTRANTtotheSELFRIGHTEOUS

Monday, May 05, 2008

The local Black Stars of Ghana on Sunday put up an impressive performance to thrash their Togolese counterparts, the Hawks 2-0 in their qualifying match in the maiden African Nations Championship at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Stars took the lead in the first half through striker Eric Bekoe, who converted a penalty.

In the second half, John Boye added another for the Stars in the 47th minute when he headed home a cross from midfield gem, Ekow Benson, which beat goalkeeper Jean Robell of Togo.

Togolese strikers played very well to create scoring chances as they forced Ghanaian goalkeeper Fatau Dauda to make brilliant saves.

The return match will be played in Abidjan, Ivorian capital in two weeks time due to a ban on Togo to play at home by CAF.

The Hawks of Togo are serving a three-home match ban after riotous fans attacked Mali players in last year's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
