I've had Dwight Yoakam's Guitars Cadillacs Etc. Etc. for quite a while. It's only recently become my obsession. The music is timeless. The lyrics are classic. The production is perfect.
Another great project of Yoakam's was the movie Sling Blade. Vic Chesnut is great in this film as well. Vic's album Little might be the greatest Folk LP of all time. I met Vic and Ian MacKaye on the same night at The Bayou, March 14, 1997.

here is a song I wrote and did a one take recording of last night. It was in honor of our president’s state of the union address. dig the siren and Pres howl - organic, dude.
I did the same thing this time of year, 2005. that’s when I wrote and recorded Inauguration Day. Inauguration Day was one of the first songs I ever wrote, and my jam when I played tuesdays at staccato; and met ac, and kev hull; and first started playing with kb and ian walters.
Well, anyway, things ain’t changed much; so even if you find yourself behind a line in the sand or on the other side of the cafetorium, I hope you enjoy one or both of them:
1. State of the Union(1/23/07)
2. Inauguration Day(1/19/05)

"The Best Little Pasta House in Jamaica"
We stumbled upon Evita's shortly after arriving in Ocho Rios. About halfway through dinner I declared that dining at Evita's was worth both the five hour flight and two hour bus ride from DC to OR. The view, hanging of the mountain, looking down on the lights of Ochi, was certainly worth the steep, half mile climb of s curves. The menu was a perfect selection of Northern Italian meets Jamaican: homemade pasta plus the spices and produce of the island. We went on to have dinner at Evita's three of our four nights in Jamaica. It's no wonder the place has also been a hangout for Dennis Hopper, Kate Moss, Anthony Hopkins, The Marleys, and THE ROLLING STONES.

Mission accomplished.
