Halloweenheads
I spend a lot of time over at ToBeYoung. It is the only place to follow the drama that is Ryan Adams & The Cardinals on tour. The Halloweeheads around here will be at Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Hall on October 30 to see what ensues. Two tickets to the long sold out show are available for face value here. Consensus seems to be that the best show of the tour so far was last Friday, October 19, at McFarlin Auditorium, on the campus of Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas. Download it here as a zipped folder of mp3s.

Lucero

These boys from Memphis are my latest favorite band. They come to college radio by way of the familiar punk rock turned singer/songwriter country rock from the South route. Think Vic Chesnutt or Will Oldham backed by Ryan Adams' Pinkhearts or Sweetheart Revolution. Yeah, they're that good.

The Bats of Lome
From Poject KB:
Nice. Slow. Easy. One cant be jumpy - or impatient - and maintain. The sun sets at 5:30. 5-6pm finds us sitting on the roof with our shades and a drink watching the sun set over the dusty city, waiting for the bats of Lomè to make their nightly soujourn into the blueish-orqnge skies. A light kicks on here and there and before long the nightly sirens (much like the friday afternoon tornado warnings) indicate to the population that the time has come once again to pack it in for the evening.
Elections went well. Rather peaceful, that is. And the hum of the city has relaxed. The dancing crowds of whistle blowing, drum beating, face painting democratic paraders have filtered back into the grooves. Ramadan is over, too. No longer are nightly prayers blasted from the mosques through speakers that have seen better days... days probably spent somewhere else. And while the pace rapidly slows in the streets -dusk is forever visited by the bats of Lomé.

Tomorrow Night

Old Man's Beer Night at Duffy's Irish Restaurant coincides with Jill's hosting of bunko. I stopped for an Iron City Friday during birthday celebrations for Doctor Erik von Bathtub Hoax and thought I'd died and gone to heaven sipping a cold Iron. Either come on over here tomorrow night at 7:00 and walk down with me or meet us at Duffy's around 7:30.
