Day Old Belgian Blues

When Youth & Young Manhood, and then Aha Shake Heartbreak came out, I didn't believe the hype. I gave them half-a-half-hearted listen and dismissed. At the prompting of my man AK over at UpInThis, I gave Kings of Leon another try. I found these live tracks over at Neile's Life, and good god, has this band improved. Musicianship is strong, and sound is big. Now I am amoung the legions anxiously anticipating the release of their third album, Because of the Times, on April 2, 2007. Now, if the drummer would just quit biting my style... Download Soft first, and then listen to the rest...

"It's just water...from the crick."

On August 27, 1972, The Grateful Dead played a benefit concert for Springfield Creamery, in Veneta, Oregon. Author Ken Kesey acted as master of ceremonies for the event; the creamery was operated by his brother Chuck. The Dead had just returned from the European tour immortalized on the six sides of Europe '72. After an opening set by New Riders of the Purple Sage, Jerry and the boys played three sets consisting of 170 minutes of music, lasting all afternoon and well into the night. The day is documented on the legendary, yet still unreleased, concert film by
John Norris, Sam Field, and Phil DeGuere: Sunshine Daydream, named for the coda section Sugar Magnolia.

"Pittsburgh Sound"/"where the green and the eatin' is good"

"Pittsburgh has long been searching for its first major Hip Hop star. Some have flirted with major success, while others have floundered in the masses. At the age of 17, Wiz has developed into the prodigy that Pittsburgh has been looking for, and he plans to represent his city to the fullest." (rostrumrecords.com)

"If you haven't yet heard the workingman's fed... go out and steal a copy! It is a definitive recording that contains a minimum of five songs that will end up on the greatest hits album in 20 years from now! Get down and boogie to the rhythmic percussion of Kevin Brown popping and tapping down the beat backed up by the strong performance of Dave Pauk skillfully walking up and down the bass. Listen to the soulful at times raunchy(in a good way) singing of Cory Chimka as he wails away on the Gretsch and evokes a need to get down for the get down! Don't miss out... see it performed live THIS THURSDAY NIGHT!!!"

"i hope we don't wreck your ears too much. contrary to rumour, i'd like to take a few questions right now."

prince is the greatest multi-instrumentalist rock & roll has ever seen. his 1997 show at the mci center was the greatest performance i've ever witnessed in the flesh. and, his super bowl xli half time show brought me to tears. here is his nfl press conference w/ my compliments to bishop don kushan:

if you still don't believe in prince's otherworldly rocking prowess, dig him on lead guitar in this r&r h.o.f. tribute to george harrison. you've got to be kidding me:

now that ain't no sister, sister music!

Pictures of Lily

I haven't been a regular Saturday Night Live watcher since i was a kid, but i stayed in/up for the show this weekend when i heard Lily Allen was the musical guest. I had never heard her music, but I'd seen photos and read her name every day on the computer. Goddamn if I didn't fall a little bit in love with Lily as she sang along with her bonified first wave ska band. If this the future of pop music, then I'm the Dad to take all the girls to the concert, for sure. I bought Alright, Still when I woke up Sunday, and I can't listen to anything else. Here is Smile on me. Now go buy the album.
